Leave encashment for unused annual leave is paid at your basic daily wage — your monthly basic salary divided by 30 — multiplied by the number of untaken leave days. Allowances such as housing and transport are excluded from this calculation.
Under the UAE Labour Law, full-time employees are entitled to 30 calendar days of paid annual leave per year once they have completed one year of service. Between six months and one year, leave accrues at two days per month.
Encashment of unused annual leave is calculated on the basic wage only. This differs from your normal paid leave taken during employment, which is paid at your full wage including allowances.
Accrued but untaken leave is cashed out as part of your final settlement when you leave a job, and must be paid within 14 days of your contract end date along with your gratuity and any other dues.
During employment, an employer can schedule your annual leave. However, any leave still legally accrued and untaken at the end of service must be paid out — it cannot be forfeited.
