Frequently Asked Questions
Under Article 19 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (the UAE Labour Law), overtime is paid at your basic hourly wage plus a supplement of at least 25%. The basic hourly wage is conventionally derived by dividing your monthly basic salary by 30 days and then by 8 working hours.
If overtime hours fall between 10pm and 4am, the supplement rises to 50% of the basic hourly wage. This night uplift does not apply to employees working on approved shift patterns.
If you are required to work on your weekly rest day, Article 19(4) entitles you to either a substitute rest day or payment of your normal daily wage plus a 50% supplement.
Yes. Ordinary working hours are 8 per day or 48 per week, and overtime is generally capped at 2 hours per day unless the work is necessary to prevent substantial loss or serious accident, per the Labour Law and its Executive Regulations.
